About Union Hospital of Cecil County
Union Hospital of Cecil County is known for its compassionate and informative staff, with minimal wait times for patients. Many reviews highlight the caring environment created by doctors, nurses, and lab techs, who are praised for their kindness and thoughtfulness. Patients and their families often express gratitude for the selflessness displayed by the staff during their visits. However, some experiences indicate room for improvement, particularly in end-of-life care. One family noted that during a critical situation, the atmosphere felt clinical and impersonal, lacking the comforting touches that could have eased the emotional burden. The hospital maintained strict security measures and protocols, which some found overwhelming during a difficult time. While staff provided necessary medical care, there were concerns about the level of empathy and support offered, especially in sensitive moments. Overall, Union Hospital of Cecil County is recognized for its dedicated staff and caring environment, but there are suggestions for a more compassionate approach in critical care situations.
I was diagnosed with severe STAPH infection and ended up at Union hospital because my primary doc directed me to drop everything and go to the nearest ER. I was somewhat dubious, BUT.. this ended up being the most positive and nurturing experience. The intake and the ER staff were friendly and caring. I was then transferred to a room and was welcomed by the nurses. Because of the infection, I was immediately placed on antibiotics drip which had to be changed out every 4 hrs, and I spent a week there, so I got a chance to meet just about every nurse, CNA, etc, that worked on that floor. Everyone, and I mean everyone that I came into contact with, including the cleaning personnel, were friendly, caring and utterly professional. I hope I will not need an ER again, but if I do, this is where I will go.
I went to Christiana Care Hospital in Elkton, MD for a routine Colonoscopy in August of 2023. The nurses and surgeon at the Hospital did an excellent job during my procedure. My problem with Christiana Care Union Hospital is with their billing department. I received not 1, but 4 separate bills for my procedure. I have Medicare and a supplement plan for my coverage. I have plan G, which I fully understand what my bill should be. Each time I called the Billing Department, I was told of some kind of billing error. I knew my bill should have been zero. I told the billing department, that I need a call back from someone in the Financial department of the company. I asked for a call back 3 times. Of course I never got a call back. If someone like my mother in law received these bills and had the same coverage that i do, she would have paid them. I believe this is a way for the Hospital to scam the public into paying bills that they never should have received.
The hospital staff is always compassionate and informative. The wait is minmal. Staying as a patient has been caring. The doctors take the lead in setting a very caring environment. Union's lab techs are just as kind and thoughtful as the nurses and doctors. Thank you for all of your selflessness.
