Darwin was a wonderful person to work with during a very stressful renovation project at my apartment in Cambridge. I purchased a 1000 sq ft apartment with engineered hardwood floors that were not installed professionally -- lots of gaps and poorly aligned boards everywhere. The floor had obviously not been cared for by the previous residents. Lots of dirt and dust had worked into the grain, and the varnish was entirely worn away in many spots. There were also deep gouges and scratches from furniture being moved around carelessly. During our renovation we had also removed a small section of wall, so there was a section of floor with no hardwood at all. Since we have a concrete subfloor, the hardwood was glued down and it would have been very expensive and time-consuming to tear out and replace. We decided to have the floor sanded and repaired instead, which (as I understand it) is a detail-oriented job because engineered wood cannot be sanded too deep. All the gouges and gaps had to be filled by hand, and the big ones needed filler pieces that had to be custom-fit and installed. Darwin did a beautiful job for a very reasonable price, and he was very responsive to all of our requests. When he came to inspect the space for his quote, he gave us lots of advice about what could be done with the current floor. We described our budget and time requirements, and he described exactly what he would be able to do. He followed up promptly with a quote that met our requirements. Darwin completed the job in exactly three days, as promised. For health and environmental reasons, my family wanted to use a zero-VOC, linseed-oil-based floor finish called Rubio, and Darwin was able to do it. Darwin was also very communicative via text and email; he usually responded within a few hours, if not immediately. All in all Darwin was amazing to work with and made a difficult project seem super easy. Our newly finished floor looks incredible and I would wholeheartedly hire Darwin again for any future flooring projects!
