About Hospital for Large Animals
The Hospital for Large Animals provides outstanding emergency and surgical care, often for serious conditions when other local veterinary options have been exhausted. The staff is consistently described as amazing, accommodating, empathetic, patient, knowledgeable, diligent, kind, and compassionate. They take wonderful care of patients, which include dogs, horses, and exotic animals like leopard geckos. Clients report that the team makes difficult situations as tolerable as possible, never making owners feel rushed or as though they are an inconvenience. Communication is a noted strength, with the hospital providing continuous updates, thorough explanations, and educational guidance throughout an animal's treatment and recovery. They are available for follow-up questions and handle concerns with great diligence. Financially, they are transparent about costs upfront and do not attempt to gouge clients; in some instances, money has even been refunded. While care can be pricey and waits can be long, the overall experience is that the staff is second to none, saving lives and providing excellent care. Clients highly recommend the hospital, particularly for dogs and cats, and suggest coming directly there to skip other emergency vets.
Nobody wants to come to this place, it's usually when you've exhausted all other options at your local Vet. I can tell you, they make it as tolerable as they can, all things considered. We came here with our Great Dane, Charlie, after first seeing the emergency vet in Springfield who could offer little help for her enlarged heart. The staff are accommodating and empathetic for what we're were dealing with. They got Charlie back on her feet and she's much better now. Also, we had to pay up-front for a portion of the estimated bill (75%) when we left her there for treatment, and can you believe it, they gave us money back. That NEVER happened at any other vet we've used. Many vets are just out for the almighty $ but these folks didn't try and gouge us. I wish we had came straight here instead of wasting $5,000 at the emergency vet, which I was not impressed with to begin with. If your pet is sick, do yourself a favor and come here and skip the "middle-man" at the emergency vet.
Met with Dr. Stockman today for the first time and she is absolutely AMAZING! She is incredibly patient, knowledgeable and diligent. We couldn't have asked for a better Dr./Specialist. We initially came to Tufts for the first time 2 years ago for Gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV). Titus who is now 12 years old was 10 at the time and the Dr. That did his emergency surgery was equally amazing! In over 20 years of owning Danes and seeing a couple different vets, we have never had anyone take the time or show so much compassion for us or our pets. They are second to none. Everyone we had the pleasure of working with was fantastic! It took almost 2 hours to get Titus out of the truck. Dr. Stockman still made time to see us for over an hour. We never felt rushed or as though we were inconveniencing them. I'm not an easy to deal with pet owner and I don't give compliments easily or regularly! I highly recommend Tufts for any and all pet needs.
Outstanding initial emergency / surgical care in our experience. STRONGLY SUGGEST if you do any follow-up appointments here to ensure you're clear on the timing of follow-up, what procedures are planned & approximate cost ahead of time.
