I had the pleasure of spending the day at Orchard Hill. We were shipping my horse from New Hampshire to New Jersey and the shipper's truck broke down. He was able to make it to the Walmart parking lot. I was about 10 minutes behind him when I got a call that his truck had broken down. I arrived to find him trying to call everyone he knew to help either loan him a truck or ship my horse. I decided to search for barns in the area to see if someone could help us. I called several and left voicemails but didn't hear back from anyone. Cindy, the owner of Orchard Hill answered the phone and immediately offered assistance. She sent her husband Jay with a trailer to pick up my mare and bring her to Orchard Hill, giving us a stall and hay for the day. That kindness was something you don't see anymore. It is something I will remember and be grateful for forever. What they didn't know was that my horse has been scheduled to be put down in the fall and by a small miracle, ended up getting the treatment she needed and didn't have to be put down. As the months approached, I didn't know if she would be strong enough to make the trip to NJ. She is still very weak. The horrors of her on a trailer in the middle of the Walmart parking lot and the stress of that were my worst nightmare. The blessing of Cindy offering to help gave my horse the rest she needed and enabled her to make the journey the rest of the way once the shipper's truck was fixed. My horse was so happy there! I spent the day just walking around their beautiful farm. Each person I encountered was so kind and thoughtful. The barn help, the trainers, all ready to help however they could. This will be something that will remain in my heart forever. I have been riding for at least 40 years in NJ, New Hampshire and Ohio. That was the most beautiful barn I have ever seen, filled with the kindest horse people I have ever met. Definitely renews one's faith in human kindness.
