Train their sitters, PRIOR to a shift starting- all pertinent information regarding the client should be communicated to the sitter in the form of a detailed, outlines email and the supervisor should be available to answer ALL questions the sitter may have regarding their client. Also- there is a tremendous turnover for sitters who make $7.25 per hour, do not have a gas allowance for the clients that are MILES from them and are not given overtime hours. Basically- the sitters LOSE money working for Home Instead in my opinion!
We hired Home Instead when my Father was hospitalized. We found the caregiver asleep twice on the same night. And when we asked her to please try and stay awake, she got an attitude. Even the staff at the hospital saw her UNCARING and UNPROFESSIONAL behavior. We asked her to leave immediately and I vowed never to let this business "take care" of anyone I know in the future.
