“I have always enjoyed pilates, but in recent months I have come to really love it. Not only do I feel wonderful after every session, I also feel stronger and more in tune with my body. The most valuable part of pilates for me has been the extent to which it has taught me to feel the many parts of my body —- something I never knew was possible. To be able to move my hips without using the stomach, back or legs by simply focusing on hips seems amazing. This ability to “body-sense” has provided new insights into how to sit and walk better, as well as how to alter body positions to lessen discomfort, aches or even pain. These insights were particularly valuable this year, as I approached one total hip replacement and appear to be moving towards the reality of a second.
But like so many activities, the magic lies less in the activity and far more in the teacher. This is especially true with pilates and why I am so grateful to have found the wonderful coaches at Ascend. Their careful attention to each individual’s special body issues combined with their “elevator” approach, has given me a deeper understanding of pilates. I love their vision of pilates as a path to a better functioning body for daily living and particularly enjoy their explanations for how and why the exercises contribute towards this end. My speedy recovery from surgery is surely a function of their excellent pre-surgery strengthening and post surgery workouts.
Pilates is far and away one of my favorite forms of exercise, and Ascend is providing a new and valuable perspective on this wonderful form of body awareness and strengthening.“
“I’ve taken both private and group reformer classes and I would highly recommend this studio. This is a great studio who knows how to properly teach Pilates very well and the classes leave you feeling refreshed.“
