Studio x5 Barber Shop
“I’ve been going to Studio X5 on South Harlem Ave in Palos Hills since June 2025, usually every 2–3 weeks, and Sam has been cutting my hair from the beginning.
For most of that time, I kept my hair pretty short with a fade, and Sam always kept it looking clean and sharp. Recently, we decided to change things up and let the top grow longer. I basically gave Sam the freedom to decide what would look best, and I’ve received more compliments on my hair with this new cut and style than I have in years. That says a lot!
Sam doesn’t really take appointments, but if you call or text and let him know when you’re coming, he’ll do his best to make room for you. There’s almost always a line of people waiting for him, which tells you something about his work. He takes people in order, works quickly, and keeps things moving, so even when there’s a wait, you’re usually in and out pretty quickly.
I also have Sam trim and shape my beard and eyebrows, along with waxing my ears and nose. The waxing is definitely not for the faint of heart 😂, but I also don’t have nose hairs sticking out, so I’ll take the trade-off!
One thing I’ve come to appreciate from sitting and waiting my turn is watching how Sam works with such a wide range of customers. I’ve seen him cut hair for young kids while their mom holds them, as well as men of all ages. He treats everyone with the same attention and respect.
There’s also a younger barber working in the shop who I believe may be learning from Sam. I’ve watched Sam take the time to show him techniques and help him with cuts. The young man is always very respectful to everyone who comes in, and it’s nice to see someone learning the craft firsthand.
Sam is a man of few words with me, and honestly, that’s perfectly fine. I come in, sit down, trust him to do his thing, and leave looking better than when I walked in.
