The Great Greek Thinker Socrates was one day talking with his friend on the threshold of his house. His wife who could not tolerate his talking with his friend for such a long time started abusing her husband vociferously. 'Socrates' who was used to her abuse did not mind it and continued talking. His wife ran out of patience, took a bucketful of water and poured it on Socrates's head from the balcony. The friend was taken aback but, Socrates coolly said, "What is there to be surprised about? Sometime back it was thunder and now it is followed by rain." Though 'Socrates' was humiliated by his wife in the presence of his friend, he had the good humour of explaining it away in a jocular fashion. He knew the temperament of his wife and that he could not change it. He was of the opinion, "what could not be cured should be endured."
