The Navy RTC Great Lakes is a popular camp for kids, where they learn valuable skills and develop manners. It is known for its cold weather, so visitors are advised to dress accordingly. The food is alright, and the rooms have nice service, even though guests have to do it themselves. The swimming pool is large. The graduation ceremony is well-organized, and visitors with handicap permits can get close parking, wheelchair service, and special seating. The grounds and program have improved significantly since the mid-90s, despite a tight fit due to an extra division graduating.
My son graduated from boot camp here. It was nice to see him graduate from here but would have been better if it didn't take so long for them to get liberty and to get all of their stuff and leave with family. The process just took way too long.
Went to my son's graduation, it was hectic getting on and off post. Should have had 2 gates open. Even people not going on base were driving crazy to get by everyone. And this is every Thursday.....
Bring a cushion! Metal stadium seating and not alot of leg room. For graduations? Get there early. Good views from any seats but longgg line to get in. Expect to be there awhile before graduation ceremony starts.
