I'm naming names right here at the beginning, and if I leave anyone out, I APOLOGIZE! There was Jodi, Nicole, Micah, Paul, Chris, Sara, Melissa, and Janelle. They were all outstanding!
Out of desperation, I booked an appointment at Associated Physicians Group in Edwardsville (March 2025) because I was in unbearable pain, and barely able to walk due to a herniated disc in my neck. Jodi saw me and was able to give me a few injections on my second or third visit (I don't have my trusty binder, so I do not know the exact timeframe). She then was able to get me set up with Dr. Zhou for an epidural injection in my neck, which relieved most of my pain so that I could at least walk upright within a week. Once that settled in, it was time to start Physical Therapy. I will be perfectly honest, I had little hope for it, I had it in my head that I would need surgery, but I DID want to try to avoid it. Also, I was so grateful to Jodi for helping to relieve my pain, that I would have done anything she said to, haha. I did 12 weeks of PT, going twice a week. When I first started, I could barely walk, had a hard time sitting upright for long periods, and had so much numbness in my hands and feet that I could barely function properly. Examples - I had to turn my entire upper body in order to look beyond my peripheral vision, I could barely hold things with my left hand, and my left foot dragged when I walked. Chris, Paul, and Sara worked with me in a gentle and efficient manner. So much so, that once I regained a bit of range of motion in my neck, I WANTED to go to PT! Plus, they're awesome, I had fun there. I graduated PT on July 2, 2025! I went camping for the holiday weekend, I was able to ride my bike, climb a fire tower, do trail runs, and visit a waterpark all with minimal discomfort in my neck, and absolutely NO pain! I'm not saying that my neck is 100% back to where it was, and that all of my days are pain free, but I avoided surgery, I have more pain free days than not, and my body is almost normal again. I have a follow up appointment in August, and I truthfully can't wait to see everyone again, and grab some more of their business cards to hand out!
Thank you, APG!“
