Original building was done in 1830th. But it was burnt and rebuild on original base. Now it belongs to 75 local investors who take good care. Motel and outdoors sitting area has amazing river view.

What a lovely place! I stayed in the new addition, with a great view of the Des Moines river. It was just across the street from my room. It was relaxing to watch it's stately flow toward the Mississippi. ?Room was clean, seemed brand new; and the mattress and pillows were comfy and clean. There was a pod-style coffeemaker, an efficient fridge/freezer and a microwave. Had spotty internet, so most of the morning I was not connected. Minor inconvenience, and part of life in small-town So. Iowa.The only negative was no food, breakfast or marketplace. Since I arrived after 8pm, there was only an ice cream shop open. Very unique lodging experience. This place is like stepping back in time. We had the pleasure of staying in one of the river view rooms our first night and a smaller queen room the second night there. Both very comfy beds and modern bathrooms with heated floors. Be sure to grab a drink down at the bar, then sit on the porch surrounding the upper story of the hotel! Many walkable places to eat or grab a drink or check out the state park nearby. Very cool place..definitely would recommend for a weekend getaway!
