Beautiful trees, nice walking trails that are mowed. A great place to go to in all 4 seasons. You can bring your doggo here, the property is on leash so keep that in mind. During cool weather it is not an issue however we have seen snakes (gardner?) and ticks here in summer. Also as an FYI they have an amazing venue you can rent out for weddings and parties. Definitely worth checking out on the website. ?
Plenty of things to see and hear. A nesting ground for Northern Bobwhite and many other birds. They also include a checklist pamphlet of Iowa birds at the kiosk at the main gate which has been put to great use.Birds spotted during July include: northern bobwhite, eastern meadowlark, red-winged blackbird, gray catbird, and American goldfinch
We had a great time at the Brenton Arboretum even though we visited in the winter (Mid-February). There are quite a few walking paths as well as a natural playground and picnic shelter. It is free to visit and is very well maintained. We are looking forward to visiting during each season to see the changes.Playground: There is a natural playground (trees, logs, haybales, etc). Many different opportunities to climb, crawl, swing and build.Restrooms: Clean pottapotty.Dog-friendliness: Dogs are allowed, but require a $5 admission fee.Picnic area: Picnic area was fairly large, clean and covered.
