About Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center - Uptown Division

Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center - Uptown Division receives mixed reviews. Many veterans report being treated very well, describing the staff as extremely kind, thoughtful, and professional. One patient noted being called back ten minutes early for a 9:30 appointment, with a super nice, professional, and knowledgeable nurse and a doctor who set up all future appointments and meds, with blood work done right there on site. Another long-term patient praised Mr. Glover in the 4D clinic for unmatched professionalism, kindness, and patience. However, other reviews point to serious issues. Some say the VA is back to its old self, with staff and employees standing in hallways talking, waiting rooms full of people waiting while staff chat about the weekend, and labs that do not care if they are quick and efficient or slow and carefree. There is a sense that no one is worried about losing their jobs anymore, leading to no motivation. Frustrations also include terrible phone service at different departments and difficulty accessing records for visiting veterans, with appointment wait times of several weeks and no hearing aid clinic for quick fixes. Overall, experiences vary widely between exceptional care and concerning inefficiency.

You can tell no one is worried about losing their jobs anymore. The VA is back to it's old self. All I've seen is staff and employees standing in the hallways talking. I've seen several waiting rooms with people in them just waiting and the people they are waiting for just talking about the weekend. I just watched it happen. The labs still don't care if they are quick and efficient or slow and carefree.

When you don't have to worry about losing your job no matter what you do, or do not do, then there's no motivation to get things done. Pretty heartbreaking. I'm not saying all of the VA hospital, but if everyone from the top to the bottom wasn't buddy buddy, then...read full review

I've been treated very well at Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center. They are extremely kind, thoughtful and professional. In fact, they seem much more concerned about the vets' well being than most of the Healthcare providers I've been to through community care. I've had five major surgeries there and I couldn't be more pleased with the care and respect and outcomes I've gotten there.

Visiting Veterans from Maine. Unless you’re being seen in the ED you will need to be added to the local VA system and you will need a referral from your PCP. Disappointed that our records are not readily accessible so we could make an appointment to see an audiologist for a problem with my hearing aids. The appointment wait time is several weeks and there is not a hearing aid clinic for quick fix for issues.
