Tong Dojo Shotokan Karate

I've been training here for a year now! More consistently in the past few months. As a female college student, whatever techniques taught here are really useful in a real situation. I love it the fact that it's still rooted in traditional shotokan karate, but we also explore other martial arts' techniques and adopt what work in a real fight. Sensei Chapman constantly pushes his students to the limit, but hey no pain, no gain. I feel like this is my true family in Karate! OOSSUUU

Wonderful dojo that Sensei Chapman--a true Shotokan traditionalist as far as I can tell--has built. My older two sons have been here for a year. If your are considering enrolling your children, you must understand he expects commitment, will criticize your children (with the best of intentions to help them improve), and will not coddle them. Rewards such as belts and stripes are not given out readily. If you parent your children with the philosophy that self-esteem is the natural result of achievement through hard work (rather than the number of likes received through carefully curated Instagram posts for example), then this is the place for you.

This is a VERY traditional Shotokan dojo, from the makiwara to the dojo kun. The emphasis is on how to defend yourself. The teachers are Senseis, not "Masters" promising a black belt within a years' time. (It should take about 5 years BTW)If you want to EARN a black belt, come on in! (Otherwise, you could buy the outfit at Halloween to save time, money and sweat.)Make new friends and join today to master an art as well as gain confidence in new, practical skills.
