I’ve been a SAR K9 handler for nearly a quarter century. My partners were on a 20ft long lead wilderness training or deployed to finding missing persons. They were either working in the field or in their crates.
Along comes Jethro, with whom I will be doing different work, which will be around other dogs, and I realized two things: I’ve never had experience socializing my dogs to be passive around other dogs in close proximity, and I’ve never taught a dog to “heel”.
