Marathon AC did the annual maintenance on my central a/c unit. When I called they said it was about $90 which was in line with a couple other companies I spoke with. They sent two guys and finished the job in a flash. When I got the bill it was for $158. They charged $120 for labor because of there being two guys. Marathon AC did the annual maintenance on my central a/c unit. When I called they said it was about $90 which was in line with a couple other companies I spoke with. They sent two guys and finished the job in a flash. When I got the bill it was for $158. They charged $120 for labor because of there being two guys. They should have told me before hand that because they were sending two guys there was no chance they could come in on estimate. This was surprise number one. The bill also included $30 for an algae strip. You can buy these strips all day long for $10 (cheaper by the case). They said nothing about this before hand. Surprise number two. Most companies include a couple of algae tabs as part of the maintenance. The strips are more expensive and I should have been told of the high cost before the work was done. I will not use this company again. They missed their phone estimate by a whopping %75 high. Too expensive and too many surprises for a simple job like an annual maintenance on a small 3 ton unit. I can only imagine the cost overrun and uncertainty on a large job. There are too many other reputable companies to have to put up with this.
