I've been volunteering at the Veterans Lodge with Big Dog Ranch Rescue, and it's honestly one of the most meaningful experiences I've had. The work they do with service dogs and veterans is incredible -- it's not just training dogs, it's building real partnerships that change lives. Evan Freed, the director, leads with integrity and purpose. He's hands-on and genuinely cares about every dog and person that comes through. The facility is well-organized, welcoming, and you can tell it's run with heart. And honestly, everyone there is so friendly -- from staff to volunteers to vets. It's a supportive community where you feel valued and part of something important. If you're looking for a rescue that's about more than just saving dogs -- one that invests in community, healing, and service -- Big Dog Ranch Rescue is it. Volunteering here made me proud to be part of something bigger. Highly recommend.

I bought a house in western Palm Beach county. Watching my dogs play in the yard, I realized I had enough room to give a home to another dog. I went to the BDRR and adopted a senior (8 yr old) Shiba Inu. The process was easy. The employees and volunteers are compassionate and dedicated. The dogs are loved and cared for, including on-site veterinarians. This is not a shelter, it's a campus religiously focused on reintegrating those abandoned canines that deserve love and attention. The adoption began with an application for suitability, intended to maximize matching and minimize returns. After approval, I was invited to meet the dog I wanted to take home. Open from 10-5 daily, making an appointment accommodated my schedule. The property is a sprawling 30+ acre facility with individual structures committed to health care, admin, kennels, and play/interaction. Meeting my future family member, the dog was clean; plainly receiving a lot of attention so she was comfortable in alien surroundings. She was timid, but friendly. Our connection immediate. To follow-up, another appointment involved introducing my adoption pup to my other canine companions. They got along well, and the documents completed. Checking out, I got as much history as the BDRR could compile. Vaccinations were administered. Health testing performed. Surgery to spay my newest dog. Heart worm meds to prevent disease. Everything is covered. I won the lottery - my newest family member is a great companion. She plays happily, no food aggression, and is inseparable from my other canine kids. In the machineries of the Universe, there is a special place reserved for the team members at the BDRR. Thank you for Dixie. She's loved and appreciated instead of discarded and forgotten - because the BDRR truly cares.

Fantastic facility (Loxahatchee), run by a caring organization. Staff is very friendly, and you can tell they are very dedicated to their 4 legged residents. The website is easy to navigate and is up to date. I filed an application to be a dog dad, was approved quickly, and found my new best friend with ease. I could not have been more pleased with my experience. I included a photo of Terra's (formally Cutie Pie 1994) car ride home. Even if you don't end up adopting, I suggest you donate either your time or money.
