No had cateract surgery two years ago. Two days post op, I experienced horrendous pain; returned to doctor to be told this is normal and that it could take time. Returned repeatedly — the apologized, very sorry for my experience, but could find nothing that could be causing such pain. Tried numerous drops with no success. It was pain was agonizing—I actually took a fall, resulting in concussion. ….. After weeks of visits and getting no answers from doctor, I decided to seek help at the Cornea Center at Wills Eye Hospital. It took just a couple of visits. I was diagnosed with a herpes virus in that eye, which was a mystery and apparently causing increased IOP for years. In an attempt to treat the eye with drops and medication and avoid a corneal transplant, the problem was still there. After a year, however, a corneal transplant was the only option left. Long story short, it took time, but I finally excellent vision in the eye—no pain or discomfort whatsoever. The cataract procedure performed at ECD was fine—no problem with the lense. However, what followed was a nightmare. Why had I not been referred to a specialist? Why did I have to make this call? My eye was blistering and a terrible mess by the time I got to Wills Eye. No one at ECD had the slightest idea what to do with me, just kept shaking their heads and telling me to come back, until I gave up. The fact that eye had higher IOP, why was it never considered a red flag? If I had stayed with them, I probably would have lost vision in that eye; at the very least, I would have been able to stand the pain. I had no quality of life during that time. And I blame it all on the doctors’ lack of care for the patient.

From the moment you walk in the door, the staff, technicians and doctors were all friendly and knowledgeable. I appreciate the time they took to answer questions and advise me on procedures and what to expect before and after my procedure. They truly care about their patients.
