I took advantage of Yunus Emre Institute's free A1 Turkish online class. I couldn't believe it was free! Just needed to buy the textbook for $50.
I will say the lessons could have started from a lower level given many of us had never studied Turkish before, and the teacher could have used some more training on active learning strategies, but I did learn some Turkish, and it was fun to learn a bit about Turkish music and culture and connect with others around the US and Turkey.
With a few tweaks, it will be a great asset to those wanting to learn Turkish live, off the apps and YouTube channels.

I am married to a Turkish man and wanted to brush up on my Turkish. I have taken a total of three courses from Yunus Emre. Each time I have had superb experiences. First of all, the instructors are top notch. Most are doing advanced degrees in some aspect of Turkish language. Not only do they have knowledge of Turkish, but can also explain the rules in a learner friendly way. Every teacher I had was patient and kind with me. Each teacher has their own methods, but each teacher’s methods were helpful. I recently took the A1 Turkish class at the institute in DC, and it was very well-structured. The instructor was knowledgeable, patient, and dedicated, creating a great learning experience in a warm and welcoming environment. Highly recommend! PS: this is also my polite public request for more in-person courses!?
