We had a deck on the 2nd floor of our house that was beginning to develop cracks in the floor and also wood rot on the railing. We wanted to get this fixed before the rainy season since the deck is above part of the dining room on the first floor. I found many companies on yelp and other sites but many charged ridiculous amounts or were not accommodating when it came down to the types of materials that were used. Luckily I found Finley Construction and called Jeff who is the owner. He is very prompt and efficient and had the entire deck and railing replaced in about 5 days. We found Jeff when our neighbor was getting their home remodeled. We'd been thinking about a deck and so my partner asked Jeff over for a look and a formal bid. The price was right, so we agreed to hire and when his scheduled cleared, he came over along with an apprentice, Joe, to begin the work.Jeff is a competent builder who created the exact vision we saw. One of the first builders we've worked with that we didn't feel like we needed to babysit or triple check the work the entire time. We found Jeff when our neighbor was getting their home remodeled. We'd been thinking about a deck and so my partner asked Jeff over for a look and a formal bid. The price was right, so we agreed to hire and when his scheduled cleared, he came over along with an apprentice, to begin the work as discussed. This started as an old fashioned handshake deal. He asked for $100 to 'save the date' and fronted all material costs. Note: If this was a higher priced project, I wouldn't blame the man if he asked for the customary 10% or $1000 - you can't expect your builder (who's not your buddy) to put up all the cash, all the time.
