Sunnyvale Martial Arts Academy

Sunnyvale Martial Arts Academy (SMAA) is a reputable business offering high-quality martial arts training. The establishment is known for its clean and well-maintained facilities, and classes are structured to provide a good workout while teaching new skills. The instructors are commended for their friendliness, knowledge, patience, and dedication to their students. They treat everyone with respect and teach them to do the same, creating a positive atmosphere and culture.

The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) program for kids at SMAA, led by a brown belt named Jian, is particularly noteworthy. Jian's years of teaching experience enable him to articulate Jiu-Jitsu techniques in a way that is easier to understand, without missing any important details. His teaching skills are impressive, as some black belts struggle to explain movements and techniques as clearly as he does.

Despite being a relatively new program, the kids in the BJJ class have shown significant progress. After only a year of training, some of these students have competed in local tournaments and achieved impressive results, even placing or winning against children with more experience. These students have also demonstrated their discipline, learned from their TKD training, which has positively impacted their BJJ learning.

The BJJ classes are engaging, and students are taught to train with resistance and spar. The children in the program are attentive and eager to learn, showing a level of dedication that is not always present in other schools. SMAA provides an optional BJJ class for children who want to learn and improve, creating an environment that is free from distractions for more serious students.

The academy welcomes anyone interested in testing Jian's Jiu-Jitsu skills. Those who doubt his teaching abilities are encouraged to roll with him on Sundays or ask someone with rolling experience for an objective opinion. SMAA stands out for its great Jiu-Jitsu and exceptional teachers, providing an overall positive experience for students.
