I moved into my house about a year ago and never really thought about the gutters — they weren’t leaking or anything, so I figured it was fine. Well, after a few big rainstorms this spring, I started noticing a musty smell in the basement. Then I saw water pooling in the corners. Turns out, the gutters were so clogged with leaves and gunk that water had been spilling over the sides and seeping down into the foundation. I ended up with water damage in the basement and a mold problem that cost way more than I ever expected.
