I’ve been working with Mike since the early 90’s! I’ve trained four dogs, and one in particular was as difficult as they come. Without failure, we’ve had fantastic outcomes. Pro tip: Try a mix of group and private classes. We’ve had very high goals, in particular, solid off-leash control and the ability to take the dog virtually everywhere. We constantly receive praise for our dog’s behavior and leash work. Mike is a unicorn.
I want to give thanks to Mike for how he helped me through a sad and painful situation without me yet being a client. We had adopted a highly reactive dog a few days prior and before we could schedule our first training session, we made the difficult decision to return her to the shelter. Mike assured me it was the right thing to do given that she would need many months of intensive training to become a well-balanced dog and that if we felt unable to commit to that level of time/energy, it was better for Indie to be placed with another family.

Working with Mike Hatjes with Bay Area Dog Training has been very rewarding. He customizes the training to your dog, providing constructive guidance and modeling correct practices. The dogs love him, and it is so satisfying to witness their growth and confidence. It is reassuring to develop disciplined, socialized, trained and HAPPY dogs! Working with Mike is well worth it!
