About Stonestown Family YMCA

Stonestown Family YMCA is a clean and professional facility known for its friendly and helpful staff. Members appreciate the extensive equipment, great classes, and positive atmosphere. The YMCA is recognized for its compassionate and respectful front desk staff, as well as professional lifeguards who prioritize safety. The facility offers free towel services and is kept clean by dedicated staff. While some members have mentioned occasional complaints from newcomers regarding the temperature in the sauna and pool, they promote a kind and inclusive environment. However, there are some downsides noted by members. The weight room is small and can feel cramped during peak hours, making it potentially dangerous for those lifting weights. The basketball court has several dead spots that can affect dribbling. Some members wish the hours of operation were later, and there are occasional odors in the men's locker room, though it is said to be better than other gyms. Despite being a little pricey without discounts, many feel they get their money's worth due to the variety of amenities available. On a positive note, most gym-goers are diligent about returning weights to their proper places and wiping down equipment after use. The facility features multiple studios for stretching and exercising, with plenty of sports options including basketball, volleyball, pickleball, and swimming. Individual showers provide privacy, and the outdoor workout area offers a refreshing change of scenery with free weights and turf for various exercises. Lockers are plentiful, just remember to bring a lock. Overall, many members find the atmosphere welcoming, enjoy the friendships formed, and appreciate the cleanliness and helpful staff.

Honestly lately this YMCA is a messssss. Even after the “annual closure” when they closed down the entire gym for “improvements”, it’s the same if not more.
The facility doesn’t even have a vending machine where you can buy a water bottle in the event you forget one. Feminine products are only available from a quarter dispenser but you can’t get change from the staff at the front desk so you’re shhh out of luck if you don’t have one on you.
& I understand that ideally you plan for those things & always carry things like a water bottle & a tampon with you but it wouldn’t be difficult for them to have them available for purchase either.

I've been a member here for about 2 months now. Here's my take.

    Dislikes:
    - really small weight room, during peak hours it gets really cramped. To the point where it can become dangerous where people might accidentally bump into someone mid set. You could also find yourself waiting for equipment to open up if you don't ask to work in
    - the basketball court has a lot of dead spots. You could dribble normal when all of a sudden you could lose your dribble. I've seen people trip over their own ball after their dribble fell flat due to a dead spot
    - Hours of operation: sometimes i wish it was open later.

I've been a member here for about 2 months now. Here's my take. Dislikes: - really small weight room, during peak hours it gets really cramped. To the point where it can become dangerous where people might accidentally bump into someone mid set. You could also find yourself waiting for equipment to open up if you don't ask to work in - the basketball court has a lot of dead spots. You could dribble normal when all of a sudden you could lose your dribble. I've seen people trip over their own ball after their dribble fell flat due to a dead spot - Hours of operation: sometimes i wish it was open later. - mens locker room/shower sometimes stinks, but that's anywhere. But this place isn't bad compared to other gyms I've been too - a little pricey if you don't have a discount, but I've used all the amenities so i feel like I'm getting my money's worth Likes: - mostly everybody who lifts is really good about putting the weights back where the belong. Not where they got them from, but where they belong. - a good number of people are really good about wiping down their equipment after use - There are multiple studios to stretch and exercise - Lots of sports to try (basketball, volleyball, pickleball, swimming) - individual showers, ideal for privacy - the outdoor workout area is a nice change of scenery, the free weight is ideal for bench, squat and deadlifts. The turf area is good for plyo work, stretching and other body movement exercises. - more than enough lockers, just bring your own lock Overall: I enjoy it here. I think the people here are great, staff seems friendly and helpful. The regular gym goers seem to develop friendships and i think it's awesome to see. I haven't encountered any obnoxious or annoying gym goers. The amenities are great. I have yet to feel disgusted being there because generally it's clean.
