About Boysen Berry Farm
Boysen Berry Farm is a family-owned business located in Orland, California, near the birthplace of the boysenberry. Developed by Rudy Boysen, the boysenberry is a unique cross between a trailing blackberry and a loganberry, offering a delightful flavor that is unmatched. The farm is now run by Rudy's only granddaughter, who invites visitors to come and experience the heritage vines and taste the amazing berries. Visitors describe the farm as a great place for kids, with a fun and easy-to-find atmosphere. The berry season is short, so visitors should act quickly to enjoy the fresh, flavorful boysenberries, which can be picked and used to make jams, pies, and more. Visitors can also chat with the knowledgeable owners about raising and selling the berries. The farm accepts a variety of payment methods, making it accessible to all. Many guests enjoy picking their own berries and appreciate the opportunity to eat as they pick. The delicious boysenberries are perfect for freezing or using in recipes, such as boysenberry syrup.
The farm has more than enough bushes for the picking but just be prepared. It will be hot unless you arrive before 9am and the bushes are thorny so gardening gloves might be helpful. If you like tart berries than come in the first half of the season (May) and if you prefer sweet berries than come in the second half (June). The farm provides the rest. And the owners are wonderful. :)
Boysen Berry Farm is a community treasure, developed and maintained with love by Boysen family members and friends. The heritage fruit is as delicious as one could hope for, sweet, plump, juicy berries great for eating, jam-making and baking. U-pickers are greeted warmly, the rows are well maintained and picking is easy. Prices are very fair. We left with nothing but admiration for Jeanette and her family and will return next year.
Just like the old days of real Boysenberries we picked from the A.C.I.D. canal banks. I've talked with Nettie and it's amazing how much work they do to provide us with these sensational berries. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR WORK!!!
