THE BEST YOGA TEACHER IN THE DESERT! Salila is awesome!!! I am loving the Weds morning yoga and soundbath classes at the Joshua Tree Retreat Center. The classes take place in this magical little studio called Harmony Hall with filtered light coming in from big windows and stone masonry. Salila starts off with some mindfulness meditation and always leads a well-balanced, well-paced class for all levels. There are local regulars and often visitors from all over the world.Salila is a skilled teacher. She offers great progressions and series of poses in a vinyasa flow style class with options to increase or decrease difficulty and adjust as needed. She pays special attention...read full review
We reserved a private yoga session with Salila for a bachelorette party in Joshua Tree. I opted out of the session because I had done a yoga session for a bachelorette before and wanted to take photos for our group. Having learned yoga in a college course and practicing on my own, I will say that Salila made me wish I had actually done the yoga with the group. Salila was an incredible and sweet instructor. She was patient and adjusted her class according to the comfort levels of her student but still went through a good amount of poses. She ended the session with a heartwarming meditation dedicated to our bride-to-be that made her tear. Afterwards, Salila chatted with us and we learned all about her pet squirrel, who is deservingly spoiled, and Salila's athletic journey. I highly recommend Salila's classes!
After a ten year break from yoga practice I started taking Salila's Weds morning yoga and soundbath at the JT Retreat Center. This has changed my life for the better! SO GOOD! I feel the effects of practice all week long. I am a serious yoga snob, having practiced with Shiva Rea, Maty Ezraty and Chuck Miller, and a lot of other well-known teachers at YogaWorks, etc. for decades. Salila is a really solid teacher. She embodies the practice with her radiance and groundedness. Her class is challenging but appropriate for all levels. She is attuned to the needs of her students and offers great verbal cues and guidance to go deeper into the poses. The class is well-paced and does not feel rushed at all. I love the way she weaves mindfulness and martial arts practices into her teaching... I love her creative approach to the asanas. Then class ends with a sweet soundbath. It's a great way to rest in shavasana with the singing bowls, gongs and bells going. I leave feeling tingly and alive from head to toe and ready to take on the world. I highly recommend Salila's group or private classes. Top notch!!!
