Byers designed and installed a solar system with a storage battery. It was not cheap, but it gives me 86% independence from the grid. The installation was complicated since the panels needed to be mounted on 6 different roof surfaces to get enough area. There is enough energy generation to allow me to use the solar to charge my plug-in hybrid for 90% independence from Gas stations. The two installers, Jimmy and Shandy, were great.
