Poor HVAC experience with White Mechanical I had two HVAC Lennox Signature series units, and all my ducts were replaced by White Mechanical in 2021, who were the authorized installer for Costco at the time. My experience with them has been nothing short of frustrating and disappointing. Last year, both my thermostats needed replacement due to a factory defect, and the technician who came over was unprofessional, making several comments about not being paid enough. While I ignored this at the time, it should have been a red flag. I also requested two additional ducts for far-away rooms, for which they quoted an exorbitant $2,300. After reaching out to Lennox, they recommended another company who did the same work for just $1,000—a clear indication that White Mechanical’s pricing was inflated. Fast forward to last week when my downstairs AC stopped working. The same technician returned and blamed me for not cleaning the overflow pipe, which I do annually. After he left, the system worked briefly and then failed again. They charged me $89 for this so-called "maintenance," despite it being under warranty. This charge was only refunded after I disputed it with Steve, their Residential Manager. A second technician identified the real issue—a faulty circuit breaker. Shockingly, White Mechanical claims they do not replace the circuit breaker when installing a new HVAC system, even though their proposal stated all electrical parts would be new. They quoted $590 for the breaker replacement, which is outrageous. A loose circuit breaker can be a source of an electrical fire. As an electrical engineer, I knew this was a rip-off and I declined the service. I purchased the same breaker for $19 from Home Depot and replaced it myself in 20 minutes. Quotes from licensed electricians in this area confirmed that the job were in the range of $75 to $130. Although the diagnostic fee was refunded, I later received an email from Steve stating that White Mechanical would no longer service my home, likely because I refused to be extorted. I will happily take my business elsewhere and advise others to do the same. In conclusion, White Mechanical overcharges and employs technicians who are not fully trained. I plan to report my experience to Lennox, Costco, and the State Licensing Board. While Costco is a great company, using their third-party vendors like White Mechanical can lead to being taken advantage of. I urge others to be cautious of this company and seek out alternative authorized service providers.
Exemplary service from the very first contact, told I would receive a call from the service tech when in route, I did with his ETA, Kevin arrived a few minutes early, within minutes he had diagnosed the problem & repaired the problem. Kevin was very knowledgeable, professional and most pleasant. A few years back I had a tech out and his first words upon seeing the unit was that it was old, and needed to be replaced, same unit Kevin worked on and repaired. Based on my initial visit from White Mechanical I have ordered a new furnace and a new AC unit. If you have any service need I highly recommend White Mechanical, Inc.
