About Costco Optical Department
The Costco Vision Center provides a mixed experience for customers. While some have had positive encounters with the optometrist and staff, others have faced challenges with the service and efficiency. The optometrist is described as "AMAZING," taking extra time to understand customers' optical history and providing gentle, kind care, especially for those with special needs. The selection of frames and contacts is also praised, though the long lines can be frustrating due to the center being the only one in a large city. However, some customers have reported issues, such as feeling rushed during their eye exam, not receiving all the promised contact lenses, and encountering broken or defective eyewear. The staff is generally described as kind and helpful, but there have been instances of forgetfulness or detachment, which can impact the overall experience. Customers are advised to be patient and graceful when interacting with the staff, as they are often dealing with high volume and stressful conditions, especially during the pandemic. Overall, the Costco Vision Center offers a varied experience, with both positive and negative aspects, depending on the individual's visit.
Declined to do the “Photomap” for $75 as I’d just had one at my ophthalmologist’s office as part of my medical visit. The form DID NOT say the “Photomap” was necessary, BTW.
The optometrist had me read the top line of letters on the wall, then the bottom line and proceeded to tell me—in so many words—he needed me to do the $75 photomap for him to ‘properly’ do the exam. Otherwise the exam would consist of changing out lenses, asking, “Is 1 better or 2?” Even his attitude was bored/dismissive.”
Additionally, he could not see my prior records as they just installed a new system. Sadly, between his arrogance, attitude and none of my prior...read full review
I had an upsetting experience at this location that I feel compelled to share. As a 20-something Asian woman, I was browsing optical frames with my ESA (Emotional Support Animal) when an older Asian man—who was not with me—accidentally spilled something and walked away. An employee at the optical counter then turned to me and asked what had spilled, implying that my dog may have had an accident. I clarified that I didn’t know what happened and that my dog had not done anything.
Despite my response, she loudly said, “I’m not cleaning up after someone else’s pet,” making the assumption—presumably based on race—that the man was with me. Her tone...read full review
I waited over an hour past my scheduled appointment time because the boss's son came in and skipped ahead of everyone in line. When it was finally supposed to be my turn, they grabbed the wrong chart and allowed the person behind me to go ahead instead. No apology or acknowledgment was given for this mistake. Later, when the doctor called yet another patient who arrived after me, I decided to speak up and let her know how long I had been waiting.
Her response was shocking—she dismissed my concerns, saying, “We’re really behind. Please feel free to reschedule,” with no apology or compassion for the delays. The complete lack of professionalism and empathy...read full review
