This was the best cemetery I had ever been to. Simply gorgeous and so heart felt. Me and my husband always make a point to stop by a town's cemetery on our adventures - it is such a meaningful way to learn about the towns history and immerse yourself with it's culture. Might not be for everyone, but I personally find cemeteries so beautiful and peaceful. Every life is worth remembering and visiting and learning about the individual who were laid to rest here was something I will remember forever. The grave sites are not "manicured" like the standard lawn cemeteries which I LOVE! The sites are personal, and there are many wind chimes, photos, trinkets, and memories at a lot of the sites which is just great. The area is gorgeous, its up a winding road and surrounded by forest canopy with a sea breeze. There are historic sites here, someone was even born in 1801. So cool to read up on the town's founding people, their losses and loves, and keep their memory alive. We loved walking through here - the area is well kept and beautiful, a must see!

The 12.2 acres was donated in 1870 by Mr. Leffingwell to the Masonic Lodge of San Simeon 1877 and used for this cemetery. Grass was tall. Scenic location and cool ocean breezes fan the raised arms of the pine trees. Who is Greenup Scott?

Notice the wooden headstone and the oldest IG (in-ground) resident was a baby in 1798. All this under the watchful Monterey Pines, Coastal Live Oak and "Christmas Berry" trees aka Heteromeles arbutifolia or Toyon -----California native.

Stones stood silently. Grass was tall and undulated in salty cold wind. Over 320 Veterans of our great nation are buried here and are deserving of care in this serene Cambria location.

This cemetery is great, just enough going on to make you want to walk just a little further into the trees. I have found lots of interesting things and happenings here, definitely a must visit.
