I went to Ivania to fix a hair cut from an upscale salon in the San Francisco financial district. She gave me a classic, sophisticated cut and for the first time in years people are complimenting me on my hair!

Ever since I've moved to the East Bay my hair has never been the same. My spikes have been out of kilter, one sideburn is longer than the other, and that ratio between the length of the top and that of the sides is always off (on one occasion I walked out of the salon looking like one of The Three Stooges). I've tried $35 salons, and I've tried $12 ones. But since the result was typically the same, I ended up going with the cheapest cut possible. Ivania is a truly wonderful woman in every way. She is profoundly skilled at the art of hair cutting, but beyond that her soul is deeply attuned to the human condition. Even in the midst of tragedy she sees the beauty in every aspect of human existence. Since I'm a poet, she even recommended me several Latin American poets I'd never heard of. All of this in addition to the best haircut I've ever had, bar none. My haircut from her permanently changed the way I think about my appearance.
