I heartily recommend Jim Bachman at Bachman’s Music for guitar lessons. I’m a senior, recently retired, relocated from the East Coast to CA. With my particular interest in classical guitar music, I had a difficult time finding a suitable instructor. Recently, my friend Pat Monson strongly recommended Jim Bachman. Pat had studied guitar under Jim Bachman at CalPoly and Jim also performed at Pat’s wedding. I couldn’t be more pleased.
Jim is an excellent instructor who stresses proper technique but is not over-bearing. He is a very good communicator who explains things very clearly as well as demonstrating how it’s done. At the same time, he is very personable and humorous, and makes playing classical guitar fun. Of course, as a professional instructor he is proficient across a wide variety of music genres. I have heard him playing other music, also very beautifully.
Jim is also very accommodating, inviting my husband to sit in his studio during my 1 hr. lesson instead waiting in the car.
We live in Trilogy (in Nipomo) and my husband doesn’t complain about the 45-50 minute trip to Jim’s studio because Jim’s excellent teaching technique is worth the trip.
In sum, on a scale of 10, I would rate Jim Bachman definitely “10” and strongly recommend him for guitar lessons.
Jim has been my teacher for the past three years through the Cal Poly Guitar Ensemble, and our success as a group is a strong testament to his excellence as an instructor. He has deep musical knowledge and is a very effective teacher for students of all skill levels and musical interests. As someone who has been playing and studying guitar for around 15 years, I strongly recommend Jim as a guitar teacher.
My daughter has been taking ukulele for over and year and has really enjoyed herself. She has shown amazing progress and we are grateful for a good teacher. He lets the kids learn the songs they want to play which helps keep them motivated! My other daughter decided to start with him just recently and is already enjoying it as well!
