Ivan, one of the staff, kindly suggested I come earlier next time and assured me he'd remember I needed my tires rotated. He inflated my tires for free that day. Java Motors is one of the most affordable mechanics around. They quoted me $160 to replace my MAF sensor. They replaced my intake boot for $150. That includes the diagnostic. Many mechanics charge more than that just for the diagnostic! With that said, their diagnostic practices are lacking/nonexistent. They just use a code scanner (which you can buy from a store) and a visual inspection and then give you a instant recommendation on the spot. If you ask other mechanics "What diagnostic tests will you perform on my car for error code blah blah blah?" many will come up with a variety of in depth answers with computers and machines that take time to perform. I've been taking my vehicle to Canto for 3 years, and I've not had a problem with him; he's very honest & upfront about what your vehicle needs, he wont charge you an arm & leg to fix it, but most importantly, if he cant fix it, he'll tell you & recommend someone who can.
