I was driving North on 5 just before dawn, when I saw an owl standing by the road, with one wing out as if she was hitchhiking. I was going fast, and I was almost not certain I had seen her. It was a few miles before the next turn out, but I got off, turned around, and drove back a ways. I then turned around and drove back to where I had seen her. There she was. She hadn’t moved at all. I doused the lights, parked and got out. She did not react. I got a towel out of the car and scooped her up like a baby. She did not resist.
