What a mess! Filing my taxes incorrectly then hides behind her flop of a receptionist, was told she called the IRS to correct and would call me with the correction … 6 days later no call no correction! Stay away from this office

Kathy Chalmers and her assistant, Ty, are some of the worst people I've ever dealt with. I went to her for my 2021 taxes. I had all documentation to her by the beginning of April and I knew I would owe money to the IRS in 2021 because of the amount of money I made (it was a good year for me). I'd been asking both Kathy and Ty, verbally and via email, countless times starting end of March 2021, for an estimate of my tax liability. I needed to get money to the IRS so I wouldn't have to pay penalties and interest. First, Kathy failed to get my taxes done by April 15 and needed to file an extension (which is fine). Second, even though I asked over and over and over again since end of March to give me an estimate of my tax liability, she/her assistant sent in my extension and NEVER TOLD ME HOW MUCH I NEEDED TO PAY THE IRS! They sent my extension in and failed to give me an estimate of my tax liability! An extension is only an extension of time, not of the debt one owes. Because of her and Ty's negligence and failure to respond to even one of my requests for an estimate of my tax liability, I was hit with penalties and interest of over $1,200. I did receive one email response from Ty (May 24, 2022), after he filed my extension, stating, "Bonnie, an estimated payment must be sent when the extension is filed. We must wait until Kathy finishes the taxes to find out what payments will need to be made. That is the best answer I can provide for you now..." Are you f'ing kidding me? He responded with the same emails I'd been sending him for a month, that I must send in the estimated tax payment BEFORE the extension is filed! And when I forwarded this to my new tax lady, she was utterly astonished. No, one does not have to finish the taxes to provide an estimate of what their client may owe. As a matter of fact, any good CPA can provide an estimate rather quickly. Hell, an overpayment to the IRS would have been just fine, as they would have send the overpaid amount back! If you choose to use her, be prepared to be ignored, to have your email questions never answered, to not have your taxes filed on time, and to be lied to, and I have written proof of her lying to my boyfriend. Kathy took $1,500 from my boyfriend to form his LLC - the check was cashed mid-December 2020. In March of 2021, after several requests made by him for an update of his LLC, Kathy responded, stating the reason the LLC wasn't formed yet is because "the AZ Corporation Commission is really far behind in approving LLCs" (I have the email). Turns out, when we jumped ship from Kathy and moved over to Cindy Medina at A&E Tax Services beginning of June 2022, Cindy discovered Kathy never even STARTED his LLC! Nothing had been done and nothing had been submitted to the AZ Corporation Commission. Cindy's office had both mine and his taxes done in less than one week, and had both of our LLCs formed in four days. Kathy Chalmers lied straight to my boyfriend's face in the form of an email when she said the AZCOC is backed up. You'd be better served going to H&R Block or using TurboTax than going to this unethical woman. And she owes me $1,200. Update 8/5/22: I received an email from Kathy after I mailed her a letter stating she is responsible for the $1,200 her office cost me by their failure to respond to any of my requests. This is her response, copied and pasted from her email: I am responding to your Certified letter dated July 8, 2022.The Engagement Letter that you signed, releases me of any responsibility of penalties and interest with regards to your income tax preparation. That being said, if you would be so kind in sending me a copy of the rest of the notice "CP14" that you rec'd from the IRS, I would be willing to split the amount with you. I have put a check for $570 in the mail today. If you cash it, then I will consider this matter closed. If you return it, then I guess we are going to court. I have my Lawyer on stand-by, who claims it is frivolous. We shall see!!

Beware of this business. They did my taxes and made a mistake. They not only did not help to resolve the issue, but won't receive my phone calls. When they did pick up our calls, they use old tax law to explain their mistake. We ended up learning how to resolve the issue our selves through online education such as youtube. You're better off buying tax program and doing the taxes your selves. Don't waste your money and time with this business!
