“As a parent we seek wholesome recreational outlets for our growing children and invest our time and money into supporting them in dancing, swimming, gymnastics, tennis, musical instrument, etc, etc activities. For some of us these activities become a lifestyle and we acquire a moniker such as soccer parent or scouting parent if our child develops a deep interest and spends hours weekly in such sports. However, in how many of these other recreational outlets will your child be directly trained by a “World” title holder? That’s the magic potion at McCranie Martial Arts. All the instructors have won numerous State and District titles and a majority of the instructors hold multiple World Titles from multiple years of tournament competition. What’s that mean? I once asked one of the instructors how many hours he spent preparing for a World championship event and he stated 40 hours a week in personal training getting ready for the competition. That’s on par with the preparation an Olympic athlete completes before the Olympics. If you bring your child to McCranie Martial Arts that’s the type individual who will be directly teaching your child the rudiments of the martial art. The instructor’s black belts and won titles attest to their skill in the discipline, but what is not evident until you spend time with them and watch them lead classes is the Olympic size heart and passion each instructor brings to class. In weekly attendance at classes for over a year I’ve watched them patiently take kindergartner age children as clumsy as puppies and over time grow them in skill and discipline into little karate kids who are capable of testing and acquiring a new belt rank. Want to see your kid’s eyes light up and chest puff out? Watch them after a few months of training as they take and pass the test that permits them to take off their White beginner’s belt and put on a new Orange belt, the first of many belt ranks your child will obtain if they stay the course of training. I recently attended a District-wide tournament and witnessed several of the McCranie instructors compete and win (even more) titles. However, what made them truly excited were their students (our kids) winning silver and gold titles in the kid’s competitions. The instructors have invested a part of themselves in each student and it shows in their proud attitudes about the children and their successes. As other reviewers have stated the McCranie Martial Arts team treats you and your child like family, and it’s a great family to belong to. (This review has a focus on kids because that is my primary exposure to McCranie Martial Arts. Classes are divided by age and rank so I have little exposure to teen and adult classes which occur at different times. However, in coming and going I see many teen and adult students of all belt ranks preparing for or leaving their classes. So if your parents didn’t start you out at a young age then even at 54, 64, or 74 its not too late to let loose the kid in you and take some classes at McCranie Martial Arts.)“
