“Growing old is a challenge. I am a 71-year-old retired pediatrician. In my case aging involves Parkinson's disease and loss of neuromuscular control. I wanted to try physical therapy to prolong my muscular function. I am a hiker and plan to stay out in the woods as long as possible. I came to Vulcan Performance because I prefer an independent physical therapy office with expertise and a personal touch. Members of the staff have specialized training in assisting Parkinson's patients. At the beginning, I visited twice a week and have continued to work with Vulcan Performance at least weekly. Clients are a mixture of older folks like me trying to maintain function and younger folks with various sports related or orthopedic injuries. I like that mixture. It is a cheery place. I always smile as I walk in the front door, largely because of the very positive attitude of the therapists there. I think we have been successful in slowing down the rate of muscular deterioration. But now I'm moving on to the next chapter of my disease and having deep brain stimulation surgery. And I'm continuing to make my appointments with Vulcan Performance to help me through this next transition in my aging process.“
