We were in a bind with another lending agency which did not give us the full amount we requested for a consolidation loan we had to take out. The amount was a few thousand dollars short and essentially left us worse off than before. Their agent used a slick sales pitch and repeated a slogan calling them "part of the solution, not the problem". Far from being a consolidation loan, it was a partial loan which would have left us further in debt.
