This is the original barbershop where Andy got his hair cut when he lived in Mt Airy. It is no longer operating as a barbershop but as a tourist attraction. The owner is the son of the original owner. He invites people in to just chat and share the history of the shop and town. He makes sure everyone sits in the barber chair and takes your picture, which he then posts to his FB page. There is not charge to stop at Floyd’s but there is a tip jar available.
You might notice a kind-looking gentleman seated in a barber’s chair. Don’t just stroll past. The sign on the door states, “Tourists Welcome”, so go in! He wants you to come inside and hear about his dad, the “real Floyd” who used to cut Andy’s hair in that green barber’s chair. Let him take your photo for his Floyd the Barber FB page. Definitely go inside this historic shop!
Jeff always does a great job. Friendly place.
Bill, Floyd’s son was an excellent host. He really knew allot about the history and was such a nice man. Definitely recommend this as a stop to anyone that loved the Andy Griffith show
We met the real Floyd's son, who owns the barber shop and employs two barbers. He was SO friendly and full of local history and stories about all the different people that he has met over the years. Original cash register and at least one original barber chair.
Russell Hiatt's son Bill was a very personable guy. You can tell he really loved and looked up to his dad. Bill gave us alot of information and has a sign on his door that says "Tourists Welcome" and he means it.
very good hair cut , clean place. And the price is right. Jeff is like a psychologist. And he pretty fast so your wait is not long. Oh he does not over price his hair cuts like most Barbers. A 10 out of 10 for Jeff. He has drinks and candy. Hummm.
Great guy. Good work
Very nice place to get your hair cut. Very clean. And the barber is very friendly. I think his name is Jeff. I will be back.
Jeff is a great guy. Go see him at his new location.
